If you prefer to mail or drop off your application a printable application (PDF) is available. Complete the application and enclose a copy of your dog's current rabies certificate along with your payment.

Pricing

  • Not Spayed/Neutered Dog:
    • One Year License- $30 ($20 for seniors 60+)
    • Three Year License- $80 ($60 for seniors 60+)
  • Spayed/Neutered Dog:
    • One Year License- $15 ($10 for seniors 60+)
    • Three Year License- $40 ($30 for seniors 60+)
  • Service Dog:
    • No charge with property documentation

The price for licenses after the rabies deadline doubles. 

Items to Include with Completed Application

  • A valid rabies vaccination certificate (with a vaccine licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture)
  • If applicable, proof of spay/neuter
  • Proof of Service Dog, if applicable

General Information

  • All dogs must be licensed when they attain the age of four months. NOTE: Battle Creek residents living within the city limits must obtain their appropriate license at the city's office.
  • One year dog licenses expire on the last day of the month of the dog's current rabies vaccination every year.
  • Three year dog licenses expire on the last day of the month of the dog's current rabies vaccination, every third year.

Kennel Licensing

A kennel is an establishment where 5 or more dogs are confined and kept for sale, boarding, breeding or training purposes. To apply for a kennel license:

  • Complete the kennel application and return with rabies certificated to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department at 161 E. Michigan Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49014.
  • Upon receipt of your application, the animal control officer will arrange an appointment to inspect your kennel site and issue an inspection certificate that is good for a calendar year.
  • Bring the kennel inspection certificate to the County Treasurer's Office along with payment for the license.
  • Fees - Increase Kennel Licensing for the 2024 year
    • Inspection fee – no charge
    • Licensing fee - $10.00 a dog not to exceed over $250.00 a year
(Fees double for existing kennels that do not renew before January 1st.)
