Staff will be supervising the mobile recycling center and educating the recyclers on how to use the recycling trailer. Recyclers will feed their own recycling into the labeled collection bins and are encouraged to bring their material pre-sorted.
ATTENTION (7-29-2023):
Calhoun County’s Recycling Department has updated the recycling lists for the Marshall Recycling Center and Mobile Recycling Trailer due to current market availability. The #3-#7 mixed plastic category for recycling will be replaced with #5 PP plastic only. For more information, read the press release here. Plastic no longer accepted includes #3, #4, #6 and #7. Please look at your plastic at home and do not bring #3, #4, #6, #7 items to the recycling centers. Plastic labeled #1 and #2 are still accepted. Staff will be educating recyclers onsite about the plastics change to help make this adjustment easier.
Accepted Items: Aluminum Glass Tin Cans #1 plastic bottles #2 natural plastic bottles #2 colored plastic bottles #5 PP plastic Newspaper Magazines Office paper - no glitter or foil Cardboard - flattened to fit in bin |
Tips:
|
Recycling must be loose inside the collection bins. No bagged recycling may be placed inside the trailer and plastic bottles can’t be tied together with rope or twine. Recyclers will be asked to take items that are not accepted, including bags, home with them. Recommended containers for transporting your recycling to the mobile trailer include paper bags (can be recycled with cardboard), cardboard boxes, and reusable totes and bags.
Polystyrene #6 is NOT accepted. The Marshall Recycling Center accepts Polystyrene #6 and is open Tuesday from 12 - 4 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Located at 13300 15 Mile Rd., Marshall.
The trailer and truck are funded through a 2020 EGLE Recycling Infrastructure Grant. Its purpose is to serve our rural areas, and more stops may be added. Expanded use will be into rural townships and villages based on the container’s capacity and distance of our more heavily populated areas to our recycling center options. The trailer is also available for use at community events where it can be used to collect items such as cardboard, aluminum cans, and water bottles. Please contact the Solid Waste and Recycling Coordinator at 269-969-6395, if you are interested in booking the trailer.
