New CPL applicants must apply in our Marshall office prior to the fingerprinting process.  The Sheriff’s Office processes fingerprints until 3 p.m., Monday-Friday.  Fingerprints are $15, payable to the Sheriff’s Office.  They accept cash (exact change), checks or credit cards (fees will apply). Therefore, we suggest new CPL applicants, should be in our office, with their COMPLETED application, no later than 2:30 p.m. for same day processing. Please bring your original Training Certificate.

Renewal Applicants

Renewal applicants should be in our Marshall office with their COMPLETED application no later than 4:30 p.m.  Renewal applicants can renew online if they have received their renewal letter with their PIN assigned by the Michigan State Police, CPL Unit.  Applicants may renew by mail.  The application and fees must be sent to the State of Michigan CPL Unit.  Otherwise, renewal applicants must apply in our Marshall office.  Didn’t receive your letter? Have you moved? *Please make sure you have updated your address, in person, at our Marshall office in order to receive your letter and PIN.

*ALL applicants must have their current address on their Driver’s License or State ID, with the exception of Military personnel whose state of residency is outside of Michigan, accompanied by their PCS papers.
